Newcastle boosted in efforts to sign attack

His current club’s stance has been made clear.

Based on a recent transfer update, Newcastle United’s chances of landing an attacking “magician” soon have improved.

Newcastle’s interest in Raphinha

The Magpies, who have had a difficult season thus far, are in desperate need of adding some talent to their roster this month. Though it hasn’t worked out that way, there were optimistic expectations at the beginning of the season that Eddie Howe’s team might continue to advance to the Champions League and earn another top-four finish in the Premier League.

With so many players being linked to Newcastle and so many additions desperately needed to give Howe’s team any chance of making it back into the top four, it would be shocking if Newcastle failed to make any new acquisitions during the January transfer window.

A recent report from Sport [via Sport Witness] suggests that Raphinha may have another chance to join with Newcastle, as the La Liga powerhouses are growing more and more inclined to let him go.

Given the winger’s lackluster performance at Barca since joining from Leeds, it’s said that “patience is running out” and that a second bid may now be approved for him.

Even though Raphinha hasn’t exactly impressed in Spain so far, Newcastle might still make a wise signing of him at a time when the team needs more offensive talent. Dan James, a former Leeds teammate, has previously gushed about the 27-year-old, praising his technical skill and saying:

He is a conjurer. He has always been a fantastic player—I had the pleasure of playing against him at United—but he has advanced significantly. He was well-deserving of his call-up from Brazil, and ever since receiving it, he seems to have gained even more momentum and self-assurance. He is a total multitasker on the field. Playing with him is fantastic.”

Raphinha has experience playing in the Premier League, so he could get started right away at St James’ Park. In 65 games, he has contributed 29 goals (17 goals and 12 assists), and his skill on the right side would give players like Miguel Almiron serious competition.

His finest years may be ahead of him at 27, and whether he joins Newcastle in the summer or January, his skill and final product may establish him as a new hero at St James’.
