Newcastle United transfers: Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier has found a new club.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier is due for a medical at Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich after a £3.44million deal was agreed.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the 29-year-old has already agreed on personal terms and is currently in Munich for his physical. Dier had just four appearances in the 2023–24 season and was entering the last six months of his Spurs deal.
Following an agreement to recruit Radu Dragusin from Genoa this week, Spurs permitted Dier to depart. At the Allianz Arena, the England international will reunite with Harry Kane, his former Tottenham teammate.
During the last two transfer windows, Dier and Dragusin have both been linked to Newcastle United. Florin Manea, Dragusin’s agent, asserted that he had “talked” to his player about joining The Magpies before to his Spurs transfer.
Reports from Spain that initially credited Bayern Munich’s interest in Dier also identified Newcastle as a potential destination for the versatile defender, who can also play in midfield. Newcastle needs backup in both areas following the 10-month betting ban on Sandro Tonali and the recent extension of Sven Botman’s knee injury, which has extended their options at center-back.
However, Newcastle is expected to have a quiet January transfer season given there have been no incomings or outgoings in the first 11 days. The only real connection this month is still a loan agreement for Kalvin Phillips, a midfielder for Manchester City. The Magpies intend to counter City’s rumored £7.5 million loan fee request for the England international.
