What Eddie Howe has said about Dominic Solanke amid Newcastle United transfer links

As they look to bolster their forward options, Newcastle United is connected to Dominic Solanke of AFC Bournemouth, with Eddie Howe

Dominic Solanke, a striker for AFC Bournemouth, has caught the attention of Newcastle United, and manager Eddie Howe is being connected to one of his previous players this week.

This week, rumors circulated that Newcastle had contacted the Cherries about acquiring the former striker for Liverpool. Chronicle Live has learned that as of yet in January, the South Coast club has not received any offers from any clubs.

Given his performance this season, it is not shocking to learn that the 26-year-old is being linked to a move to St James’ Park. Having signed Solanke at the Vitality in 2019, it is evident that Howe is a fan as he has already scored 13 goals this season.

Chronicle Live has looked at Howe’s previous remarks regarding Solanke in the middle of the connections to the Northeast.

Untapped potential

When he purchased the forward from Liverpool in January 2019, Howe was convinced he would had attributes which had yet to be tapped into in senior football. “Dominic is very athletic, technically gifted, and has the physical profile that will give us something different in our front line,” he said in clarification.

“He has done very well for England at various age groups, has a huge amount of potential and I’m really excited about working with him.”

Sticking by his man

Howe was not afraid to defend his striker when he was under fire, even after the player had made 19 appearances for the team without scoring a goal. “I think Dom needed that little run to really feel part of the team and the squad,” he told the Daily Echo. He is a player who will only get better, and I’m happy with what he has accomplished thus far.

Solanke pinpoints 'phenomenal' reason why his Liverpool career derailed

“He possesses the brains and technical skill to connect the play. He performed it really nicely. He demonstrated it on Saturday with his second goal, showcasing his incredible skill and lightning-fast feet.

“In training, he does exhibit confidence in front of goal, and he has no trouble finishing and scoring goals. He does it on a daily basis.

You just want one to get enamored with him. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to take advantage of any of the clear, presentable opportunities he has had, including on Saturday.

“This has happened with a lot of athletes in the past. I have no doubt that if you continue to put on strong performances, the goals will materialize.

Because of his stature, longevity, and youth, you tend to forget. What Dom can do for us in the future excites me much. He’s a terrific player right now.”

Impressive mentality

It took until July 2020 for Solanke to score his first goals for the team due to the epidemic, and Howe was none the happier to see him get off to a quick start. According to Howe, “I thought he was very good today,” TNT Sports (formerly BT Sport)

“He demonstrated his qualities by taking his goals extremely well. Dominic will benefit greatly from my belief that he will be a major player for us in the future, which will boost his self-esteem greatly.

“Dominic is a very unique player, he has attributes we really like and value and I think he’s done very well mentally to make sure outside noise doesn’t affect him.”
