Van Gundy shared that Kim had been experiencing symptoms such as numbness and weakness in her legs, which progressed rapidly, leading to her hospitalization. Despite receiving treatment, her condition deteriorated, and she sadly passed away on August 1, 2022.

Van Gundy expressed his gratitude for the support he received from the NBA community, friends, and family during this difficult time. He also emphasized the importance of awareness and research for rare diseases like Guillain-Barré syndrome, which affects only about 1 in 100,000 people.
