Updated on 6/16/24 One NBA examiner recommended that the Los Angeles Lakers rejoin with close buddy Alex Caruso this offseason. Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley suggested the following trade between the Lakers and Chicago Bulls: The deal: The Los Angeles Lakers receive Alex Caruso from the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Jarred Vanderbilt, a 2029 first-round pick (protected in the top four), and The Lakers lament losing Caruso to the Bulls in the offseason of 2022. Anthony Davis and LeBron James adored playing with Caruso, one of the NBA’s best defenders. Buckley maintains that the Lakers should attempt to acquire the All-NBA defender once more, despite the fact that the Bulls have informed teams that they are not interested in trading Caruso. According to Buckley’s statement, “Caruso would immediately become L.A.’s top perimeter defender while also making his mark as a spot-up shooter, secondary playmaker, transition attacker, and right-place, right-time cutter.” “In the event that he didn’t break the beginning five, he would totally catch a spot with the end bunch. “The Bulls had previously offered a high price for Caruso in a trade, but if they are fans of Vanderbilt, who is a powerful and versatile defensive stopper in his own right, they may believe that this is sufficient. A team built around a 39-year-old James and a 31-year-old, frequently injured Davis is about as valuable as a draft asset can be for a lightly protected future first.” This season, Caruso shot 46.8% from the field overall, 40.8% from three, and 76.0% from the free-throw line, putting up an average of 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks. He will make $9.9 million next season. This year, the Bulls did not make the playoffs, and the Lakers lost in five games to the Denver Nuggets in the first round. After firing Darvin Ham, Los Angeles needs a new head coach. JJ Redick, an ESPN broadcaster who used to play guard for the NBA and has a good relationship with Caruso, is likely to be hired by the team. Caruso, 30, has played for the Lakers and Bulls and averaged 6.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.5 blocks over his career.
