While Team USA men’s basketball may still need some fine tuning, the Summer Olympics in Paris are quickly approaching. Most importantly, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst noted, Anthony Davis showed why he’s such an essential part of the American effort. “He played some excellent interior defense and finished with 17 points and 14 rebounds in just 18 minutes, which made a difference in the game.”Together with forward LeBron James, Davis is one of two Lakers on Team USA. In August 2023, Davis signed a three-year, $175.37 million contract deal. Before the Olympics, Team USA has three additional exhibition matches scheduled: July 17 in Abu Dhabi against Serbia, July 20 in London against South Sudan, and July 22 in London against Germany.Following his one-year college career in which he led the University of Kentucky to an NCAA title and won Final Four Most Outstanding Player, National Player of the Year, and SEC Player of the Year, Davis was selected by the New Orleans Hornets as the number one overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft. Before participating in an NBA game, in 2012, Davis was chosen to represent Team USA. He played with James and the late Kobe Bryant on the squad that went undefeated and won the gold medal in the London Olympics. As a nine-time NBA All-Star, five-time All-NBA Team selection, and six-time NBA All-Defensive Team selection, Davis has amassed one of the league’s greatest resumes during the past ten years. Alongside James, Davis helped the Lakers win an NBA title in 2020. In 2021, Davis was selected for the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.
