If and when Bronny gets picked, LeBron James may decide to leave the Lakers due to his desire to play with his kid.
And according to NBA insider Marc Stein, at least two NBA clubs think James would join with them if they had Bronny.
If Bronny James were on the club, at least two NBA teams that I am aware of think LeBron James might contemplate joining with them for significantly less than $51.4 million,” said Stein. “There might be further ones.
The Lakers will be quite happy that they retained their lone first-round selection that was available for a trade throughout the season, should they eventually find themselves in that situation. If they suddenly need to cover a LeBron-sized hole, their greater flexibility in June will come in useful.
But for Bronny to be selected this summer, his stock needs to rise considerably. Despite missing many games this season, his average in 20.8 minutes per game is barely 5.8 points, 3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists.
To be fair, he has demonstrated promise as a defensive player and is more of a weapon than an attacking one. However, Bronny is not ranked among the top 60 in any well-known mock draft.
Expect LeBron’s possible departure to become a 2025 problem for the Lakers rather than an urgent one if that doesn’t alter before the conclusion of the season.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis were questioned about the Lakers’ lack of activity during the trade deadline because the team did not make any transactions.
LeBron was asked what the Lakers should do, if they are healthy of course, to set themselves up for a postseason run following the team’s 114-106 loss to the Nuggets.
Rob Pelinka stated that “the right offer wasn’t there” following the deadline, despite what appeared to be very purposeful push from LeBron to leave.
