Because he “knows what could happen if things go south” by Week 18, head coach Brian Daboll is reportedly returning to his position as the New York Giants’ primary offensive play-caller for this Sunday’s regular-season opener against the Minnesota Vikings. Boomer Esiason, a current NFL analyst and a former Most Valuable Player, is of the opinion that Daboll will not hesitate to scold quarterback Daniel Jones if Jones makes mistakes that could have been avoided beginning with the game against Minnesota.
Daboll became famous when he famously punched Jones in the face after the signal-caller threw an awful interception during his official Giants debut in September 2022. After winning that game from behind, Big Blue qualified for the playoffs and won the postseason on the road (against the Vikings, of course).
From the beginning of spring workouts to the end of training camp in August, Daboll’s reportedly displayed a calmer personality. Esiason is of the opinion that Daboll might be able to go back two years on Sunday afternoon. Regarding Daboll’s treatment of Jones, Esiason stated, “I think Brian is gonna be in his grill.” “He will be pushing, attempting to bring out the best in him. He won’t allow him to experience those slumps during games. Even though Daboll seems to be in charge, some people in the NFL think that Giants general manager Joe Schoen is working hard to get out of Jones’ contract next offseason. Because of these facts, Daboll might do whatever he thinks is necessary to try to get the 27-year-old signal caller to play better during games.
DraftKings Sportsbook had the Giants listed as 1.5-point home underdogs for Sunday’s game against the Vikings as of Friday afternoon. In anticipation of what could be a season that defines the regime, it’s possible that Daboll will make use of such information as bulletin board material to inspire Jones and others in the locker room.
