Michael Beale, the new coach of Sunderland, spoke about the team’s January transfer ambitions during his first press conference.
Michael Beale claims he has been informed that there is still room to strengthen the Sunderland team in January, but he is content to get more out of the current bunch and does not want to make any significant changes.
Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman stated during Beale’s first news conference on Wednesday that, considering the team’s difficulties thus far this season, they may try to acquire another striker next month. However, he also expressed confidence in Beale’s ability to assist in resolving the issue on the training field.
The new Sunderland head coach expressed his excitement about some of the club’s recent additions, saying he believes there is much more to be gained from them. This was the main topic of conversation during the protracted negotiations that resulted in his appointment as Tony Mowbray’s replacement.
Making backup plans in case Premier League interest in Sunderland’s finest young talent materializes is another aspect of the club’s preparations for next month, even though Speakman has made it plain that they have no intention of selling.
“It wasn’t essential for me to get guarantees on the window or anything like that, because I like the team we have,” Beale stated.
“There are one or two players that really catch my attention.
“My questions about how much is there and what we’re going to do and when didn’t take up much of the conversation. It was more about talking about the current team and making the most of the investment that has already been made, knowing that there is opportunity for us to complete work in accordance with our vision simply because it came up during our discussion of all of this. Even if it’s your greatest players you want to keep, you also have to go through that process because you never know what’s around the corner.
“We’re always looking and having our lists compiled.”
Speakman stated that Beale will have the opportunity to attend the upcoming recruitment meeting, which is scheduled for today.
“We’ve been following a schedule for this window, and we’ll undoubtedly get his perspective on that as well. This Thursday is our next recruitment meeting. Though January might be a challenging month, we always strive to advance and do better. That is our constant goal.”
