Alan Shearer has just delivered his brutally honest verdict as Newcastle lose 1-0 to Luton Town

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer is furious after the Magpies lost 1-0 to Luton Town on Saturday.

Eddie Howe’s team had a dismal away record going into Kenilworth Road, and it hasn’t gotten any better.

One week after their captain Tom Lockyer’s injury at Bournemouth, Luton secured an emotional three points thanks to a goal from former Newcastle star Andros Townsend in the first half.

The team under Rob Edwards were outstanding; they played with a ferocity that Newcastle could not match.

Alexander Isak thought he had equalized, but the Magpies gave a dismal display despite having the ball in the net once. It was disqualified for being offside, though.

Although Newcastle had opportunities and made an effort to pressure Luton, it was actually a dismal performance from a team that has been having a lot of problems lately. We first lost badly in the Champions League.

Shearer responded instantly to the 1-0 loss to Luton on X, which was then known as Twitter.

“The Toon is second best in every category today,” he wrote. Physicality, Desire, Intensity. Congratulations, Luton. Was worthy of the points.

Shearer states that Luton outperformed Newcastle in every area of the field. The Magpies never quite recovered from their sluggish start.

We had periods of solid possession and some nice opportunities, but all in all, it was a desperate effort at a crucial juncture, when Howe wanted his players to step up.

For the itinerant Toon Army, who will now focus on Boxing Day, there was no early Christmas gift.

On Tuesday, Newcastle will play at St. James’ Park against Nottingham Forest in their next game. It’s imperative that the Magpies win that game, and they should play with greater physicality, fervor, and energy than they did against Luton.
